Kelly-Hill Company recently completed construction at Kansas City Southern’s new intermodal facility at Wylie, Texas. The construction on this project included more than 13,000 track feet across strip tracks, leads and mechanical track, as well as three new turnouts. With a tight project schedule, we beat each of the three schedule milestones by at least two days with each milestone.

This new facility replaces KCS’ current facility in Dallas. The new Wylie facility will have an annual lift capacity of more than 300,000 units, in addition to an automated gate system and mechanical tracks.

In business, we’re always learning; always analyzing to make ourselves and our companies better. Recently Kelly-Hill Company has been recognized with awards that highlight our safety commitment and reputation. To reach such accolades, we put safety and the knowledge of how to be safe at the top of mind. In looking at the safety statistics of our industry overall, the statistics are fairly positive, but we can always do better. Just because Kelly-Hill has won safety awards doesn’t mean we stop keeping safety at the top of each and every one of our employee’s mind on a day-to-day basis.

Kelly-Hill created this infographic compiling statistics about the safety of our industry:

We’re starting the year off right with another safety excellence award, this time from The Builders’ Association. We were honored with two awards last week: first place winner in the Subcontractor Division for 50,001-150,000 work hours, as well as the Grand Award Winner for all Divisions for best overall safety program. The awards represent The Builders’ Association, Missouri Department of Labor Standards, Kansas Department of Labor, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration Kansas City Office.

Kelly-Hill Company received these awards due to our “common sense” approach to safety, going more than five years and three months without a reportable incident. We are able to build on this sterling record by having dedicated training sessions, daily safety meetings, tool box talks and simply the pride of all our employees in being safe. We average more than 135,000 production hours each year!

This is the second and third safety awards we’ve won this year. We were recognized by NRC in January as a Gold Level Safety Organization.
