Railroad Track Maintenance
Industrial Repair and Maintenance
Maintaining track at your facility is imperative in preventing derailments, which cause service outages and the inability to ship your product on schedule. Kelly-Hill Company has been repairing and maintaining track since its inception. Our crews are experienced in track inspection and completing the necessary track improvements. We also provide maintenance plans to our facility clients. Having a plan in place can drastically minimize the amount of issues you have throughout the year; issues that could be costly to repair in an emergency or causing a derailment at your facility.
Crane Rail Maintenance
Kelly-Hill Company owns more than 200 pieces of machinery and equipment, including cranes. Our cranes are specialized for railroad use and, more specifically, removing old track and laying new track. They can also be used to install signaling equipment on the same right-of-way. Having a rail-specific crane on your track maintenance project makes the job at hand quicker and more efficient to complete.
Snow Removal and Winter Maintenance
Kelly-Hill Company provides a range of snow removal equipment that helps maintain tracks, switches and crossings in the winter months. This equipment includes snow blowers that are mounted on other equipment to clear tracks, switch heaters that operate on propane or natural gas, and tailgate spreaders the dispense salt or sand on road crossings to prevent snow and ice buildup. We understand the important in keeping railroads running properly at all times, especially in harsh weather.
Crossing Rehabilitation and Replacement
When a railroad crossing begins to deteriorate, track owners call Kelly-Hill Company to rehabilitate or replace their railroad and roadway crossing. Crossings are especially vulnerable for wear and tear with not only train traffic, but automobile traffic as well. Kelly-Hill Company can take care of demolition, installing the new track panel, grading and laying new asphalt. Rehabilitating your crossing is imperative to keep your line in service and prevent derailments in urban areas. Our priority is safety of all those utilizing the crossing and getting track owners access to the line as soon as possible.
For tracks that carry passenger trains, one of the benefits of removing joints is not hearing the “clickety clack” sound; making the ride more enjoyable for passengers. However, joint elimination’s main feature is that it is stronger and safer than jointed rail. Kelly-Hill Company understands the need to make its client’s railroads stronger and safer and provides joint elimination services along with our CWR Track Construction, Thermite Welding, and Switch Point and Frog Welding services. Our crews use tools including welders, grinders, air compressors and generators onsite to eliminate joints for a safer ride for the goods riding on the tracks.
Track Demolition/Removal and Disposal/Reuse
With nearly every maintenance project there will be excess track and ties that need to be disposed of properly. Kelly-Hill Company follows all federal and local environmental laws and best practices to recycle or dispose of track and tie pieces. We transport the materials from the site to the appropriate recycling or disposal center, so you don’t have to worry about it.
